Return of the Grievous Angel
Jim James & ViRG (Gram Parsons Tribute)
When we were recording the song "Lost In You" that we created together, we were really inspired by the classic duets of Gram Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris and THEN we discovered that this Nov 5 would have been Grams 80th birthday! So we decided to cover one of our favorite tunes by the pair in a new synth re-working! We re-composed the tune in the style of the 70’s modular synth era - where synthesizer pioneers would create original and known songs using only a synth.
This was inspired by the works of Mort Garson, Wendy Carlos, Raymond Scott, and Suzanne Ciani. It's a very sweet combination of the spirit of Americana and the revelation of human-controlled machines, joining together as one. All synths played by Virg and all guitars played by Jim. We hope you enjoy!

The tune is about the concept of “beer goggles” traditionally used to describe an evening with a woman - but twisted!
